About My Travels (Nov. 2018 to Nov 2019)

It has been a lifetime ambition to go travelling. To see the world as a traveller, not as a tourist. To see what I might discover.

And, now, starting late November my travels begin. Whoo-hoo! I’m a little bit scared, mixed with a little bit excited, but I really can’t wait for the adventures to begin.

I want to keep a blog of my travels. (As I did when I walked The Camino Way this summer.) But this time, I shall be updating a facebook page, and the updates shall appear here…

I've been smiling a lot in Ubud. So much to smile about. This one is a post massage smile 😁I've not posted much or even taken many pictures in my four weeks in Ubud, even though it is a beautiful place. But do you know what's the most beautiful? It's the people. The Balinese have the most open, happy, infectious smiles 😁 They truly warm your heart. And this lady, Kadek, warms my heart and makes my body sing. She honestly gives the best massages. #baliindonesia #bali #ubud #ubudvibes #beautifulsmiles ... See MoreSee Less

Rachel's travels

I've just done something called the Ha Giang Loop. It's riding a motorbike around the Ha Giang province of Vietnam and right up to the border of China. This is THE most stunning area.

I'm now tired as hell, battered and bruised.... but it was totally worth it. Driving a motorbike all day for three days on these winding, narrow, steep roads, where everyone drives so fast is exhausting. Plus I fell off the bike a couple of times 🤕

But I'm alive and glad of it. That's certainly how I felt on this trip: "Wow, I'm so lucky to be alive and see this"Wow! What a trip! 3 days riding around these stunning mountains. It was really difficult to keep my eyes on the road and NOT stop every few seconds to look and take more photos. Of course, the best moments were those that I didn't catch on camera: the Hmong people working in the mountains wearing their traditional gear, living their life; the herds of cows or goats coming towards me on these little country roads; a shared smile with a local as I drove on by; the glance over a mountain into a stunning view, in a place that I could not stop. I wish there had been a way to capture these moments and I hope that they will live forever in my mind. #vietnam #travelphotography #stunningviews #hagiangloop #hagiang #nature #mountainviews #lovinglife #feelingblessed #gladtobealive #onlyjustaliveafterthatdrive @ Hà Giang Province

Phong Nha! I love this place. It reminds me of Lovely Laos. And it's wonderful to see such natural beauty respected and preserved by the locals ❤ If it wasn't for the limited time on my Visa I would stay here for much longer. I'm glad that I stopped here for the 6 days...... did I mention the delicious vegan food and abundance of coffee? This is the town for Rachel 😉Just swinging around Phong Nha 😉 I have loved this place with it's National Park, caves, views and adventures. I can't believe today is my last day here. #phongnha #vietnam #nationalparks #views #mountainviews #deathswing #travelphotography #traveladventures #lovinglife @ Phong Nha, Binh Tri Thien, Vietnam ... Short repost today.

My visit to Hue was brief. I visited the Imperial Cityand took a bike tour around the countryside. This view was definitely the highlight for me. Truly breathtaking.

P.S. As I was still recovering from my long motorbike drive from Hoi An, this time, I decided to leave the driving an expert 😉Bike tour in Hue, learning about local agriculture and history of the villages.... but this view. Absolutely stunning!!! #motorbiketour #highlights #view #vietnam #hue #gladtobealive #lovinglife @ Hue, Vietnam
